Deadline to submit your entry is Friday, September 29, at 11:59 p.m.
If you haven’t completed your entry for Marketer of the Year (MOTY), AMA Houston can help you move forward with these easy steps to submitting your (possibly award-winning) campaign. We don’t work alone, and we don’t expect you to either. No one understands the benefits of teamwork better than we do, except maybe the past winners of MOTY.
Use these steps to guide you as you become that much closer to being announced Marketer of the Year. And visit the AMA Houston Blog and amamoty.org for more resources to help you with your submission.
Step One: Know Your Eligibility
Don’t make the mistake of creating an entry only to find you aren’t eligible. Only a company, organization, institution or division or operating unit that directs its marketing program out of a Houston area location is eligible to enter. And we’re sorry, but no MOTY Hall of Fame winners—it’s time to open the floor to someone else.
Once you establish your eligibility, make sure your campaign is too. The marketing campaign you submit in your entry must have occurred from September 2016 to September 2017.
Step Two: Create Your Entry
Once you create an account for your MOTY submission here, you’ll receive an email welcoming you to AMA Marketer of the Year. Entries not completed by the deadline will be deleted from our system–so it’s important to finish your entry and save your work.
You’ll be asked a number of questions that if not completed will prevent you from completing your MOTY entry. To begin, these will be about your company, campaign, campaign goals and the category you are entering. As you move through the entry process the questions will ask for more details and measurable results of your campaign–so keep these handy.
Step Three: Answer EVERY Question
The questions you’ll be asked are important because they’ll help place you for a category win and give us an idea of what you hoped to accomplish with your initiatives and how well you succeeded. Even if you are a small firm (and maybe a little nervous about creating your first MOTY entry), don’t discount the power demonstrating specific tactics for meeting your goals and presenting measurable results can have. It helps to be thorough, but precise.
Questions you’ll need to complete to finish your entry will help us judge you on your overall marketing for the company which could include single or multiple campaigns from September 2016 to September 2017. The information you provide will be what judges review to select the Best in Category winner and the Marketer of the Year winner. Judges typically look for evidence of a clear understanding of the campaign goals, specific tactics for meeting these goals and measurable results. Judges will also look for how the team worked together to achieve these goals.
Step Four: Provide Supporting Documentation
Finally, you’ll be asked to provide supporting documentation of results and/or marketing materials you created for the campaign. Choose what will best demonstrate your campaign results and overall goals. You’ll only be able to submit three pages max, and while this is an optional step, providing more information will only help solidify the information you gave in your answers.
If you know someone who has submitted an entry in previous years, don’t be afraid to ask if they think what you’re submitting is compelling. In a recent Q&A with three-time MOTY winning team leader, Fredrica Cudjoe, B2B communications director with Phillips 66, she shared with us some of the results her team submitted for their overall win in 2014 and category wins in 2015 and 2016.
Step Five: Add to Cart and Submit Payment
That’s it! That wasn’t so bad right? To finish your entry, you’ll need to go to your shopping cart, enter your payment method, complete the transaction and you’re in! You’ll receive verification of your submission in your email, so breathe, give your team a high-five and start planning what you’ll wear to the award ceremony.
