We’ve launched AMA Houston CoGroups to help build conversations and connections within our community of professional marketers. Today we’d like to introduce you to two dynamic volunteers who have stepped up to help us build our CoGroups for Young Professionals.
First up is our CoGroup moderator, Shannon League, Director of Marketing at Johnson Development Corp
What are you most excited about with the new CoGroups?
I am excited to bring young marketing professionals together to learn from each other, network and share my experiences where it might be of assistance!
What new projects or campaigns have you started recently?
I am currently working on extending our Pure Living campaign to have a new direction and appeal to where our customers are in their current stage of life.
What are you reading right now? What is your “go to” for great marketing info?
I just finished reading “A Minute to Think” by Juliet Funt. A great book to evaluate our “busy” lives, create some white space and take a minute to think. It provides actionable steps to apply to your current situation.
I read a lot and absorb as much info as I can 😊 I subscribe to the Marketing Dive and The Daily Carnage newsletters that I read fairly frequently. They have up to date marketing news, brand updates, with tools and techniques to use in your daily marketing life! Plus a few throwback ads that are always fun to see.
What advice do you have for our CoGroup members?
Network! You can learn so much from meeting new people. You learn and grow from the connections you make and over time they become a resource for you when you have a question, need a referral or even a connection to a new company. Don’t underestimate the power of the people you know!
How do you think someone can get the most out of CoGroups?
Interact! Make the most of the opportunity. As the AMA wants to meet young professionals where they are, we need your feedback, collaboration and opinions to make the group thrive!
Next up is our CoGroup host, Jennie Roberts, Vice President at Elmore PR
What are you most excited about with the new CoGroups?
I love the opportunity to connect with young professionals and help them answer the questions I wish I had known to ask as a young professional and find resources to learn new skills or concepts that will help them develop their career.
What new projects or campaigns have you started recently?
I am leading the effort to refresh our firm brand, and am enjoying being on the other side of a client-agency relationship.
What are you reading right now? What is your “go to” for great marketing info?
I really enjoy the podcast 9 to 5ish with theSkimm. It’s broader than marketing, but it’s great to hear work advice from women in various industries. I also follow Adam Grant for career insights on LinkedIn and his podcast, and of course, the AMA has long been a resource when I have wanted or needed to expand my knowledge base for marketing.
What advice do you have for our CoGroup members?
Be curious and ask lots of questions; it’s the best way to learn.
How do you think someone can get the most out of CoGroups?
I find you get out what you put into these types of opportunities, so be as active as you can (we all know work and life can be busy at times), and if there’s something you want to do or see, just ask. It’s exciting to be on the ground floor of a new program, and you have the opportunity to make the most if it and shape what it becomes in the future.
Thank you Shannon and Jennie for your volunteerism to help other marketing professionals! Not only is this CoGroup a place for Young Professionals, but if you are also a mentor for a Young Professional, this is another place to connect and share for those conversations.
