The University of Houston is currently seeking to hire a Director of Communications. In this role, you will be responsible for internal and external communications for the College of Optometry. This includes web and social media, written communications with community partners, and support for development activities. In addition, you will serve as spokesperson and lead the public relations efforts. The selected candidate will improve the name recognition and image of the college, primarily through the planning and coordination of its media relations and publications.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serves as liaison between the college, staff, faculty, and members of the local, state, and national media
  • Obtain exposure for the college in the media through personal contacts; communicates with the general public and the UH public in writing (publications) and orally (public speaking engagements)
  • Plan and coordinate publications, including newsletters, college web site, annual reports, and brochures
  • Supervise publications personnel in development and production of publications
  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee the writing and distribution of news releases for the appropriate media
  • Arrange press conferences and media coverage of events
  • Develop and maintain intra-university working relations with the University departments of Media Relations, Publications and Development
  • Performs other job-related duties as requested

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Minimum of five (5) years of directly job-related experience
