The Houston Symphony performs over 170 concerts for more than 350,000 people every year, featuring an innovative and broad spectrum of classical, popular, education and community-based symphonic programming.

We are currently seeking to hire a Marketing and External Relations Assistant. In this role, you will be the primary contact for marketing administrative work such as asset management, advertising production, and budget upkeep. In addition, you will support sales by developing and implementing cross-promotional opportunities for all concert series. You will also support marketing and external relations team members with administrative tasks as needed.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Act as external liaison to cultivate group sales leads, in support of achieving overall single ticket revenue goals
  • Explore and implement creative opportunities to grow group sales contacts from new and existing clients
  • Prospect and research organizations/groups to generate group business
  • Cultivate partnerships with community contacts (churches, schools, travel operators, affinity groups, retirement homes, hotel, and apartment concierges, etc.), in conjunction with education and community engagement colleagues
  • With support from the marketing and external relations department, grow future audiences by overseeing and implementing young professional, college student, and free ticket programs – create compelling offerings, recruit ambassadors, coordinate creation of collateral, track effectiveness, and plan and execute pre-/post-concert events
  • Collect, organize, and manage all promotional assets such as photography, video assets, artist bios, artist headshots, and program notes
  • Ensure that Houston Symphony information and content is updated on the Houston Theater District website and any other third-party listings sites
  • Support production of marketing materials including but not limited to radio spots, print advertising, direct mail, and commercials, in conjunction with creative services colleagues.
    Includes work with vendors and managing both internal and external approvals of marketing collateral
  • Facilitate all marketing invoice processing and, with oversight from the Marketing Revenue Manager, manage upkeep with departmental budget tracking, in coordination with the accounting department
  • Assist Chief Marketing Officer with administrative tasks, including but not limited to credit card expense reporting, presentation development, and coordination of departmental events and meetings
  • Support other members of the marketing and sales team as needed on website updates, email marketing, promotions, and social media
  • Work concert duty as required by the marketing and external relations team (approximately twice a month, involving evening/weekend hours)
  • Perform additional duties as required by the Houston Symphony Society

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing or related field
  • 1-2 years marketing or non-profit experience
  • Excellent organizational skills and detail-oriented approach
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including excellent writing and proofreading skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to function effectively as part of a departmental team
  • Ability to keep up with changing priorities, work well under pressure, and multi-task
  • Facility in word processing and spreadsheet applications
  • Sales and customer service experience
  • Knowledge of orchestral music
  • Experience with Tessitura (CRM) is a plus
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends, including some holidays
