We are currently seeking to hire a Senior Communications Designer, UI/UX/ Accessibility. In this role, you will report to the Program Manager, Digital UX/UI Design, and identify opportunities that will improve how people who use assistive technology interact with digital experiences. You will be an advocate, coach, and problem solver focused on delivering and improving the accessibility needs of individuals who rely on MD Anderson Cancer Center services and resources worldwide. In addition, you will provide support and design assistance of best practices in UI/UX. You will also support a wide range of organizational projects and constituents and collaborates closely with colleagues in Strategic Communications, Marketing, and Information Services.
The ideal candidate will be CPACC certified (Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies) with expertise in accessibility, web design, and ADA compliance to create user-friendly digital experiences. You will have a proven ability to ensure that digital content meets accessibility standards. A strong understanding of ADA requirements in graphic design, public relations, communications, writing/editing, or related fields and experience in UI/UX design for websites, as well as proficiency in HTML and CSS is preferred.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform regular accessibility audits of institutional websites and web applications
- Perform accessibility evaluations for websites and applications under consideration for purchase and deployment, including review and evaluation of vendor-provided VPAT responses
- Leverage accessibility and development (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) knowledge to implement accessibility features for web applications and software
- Evaluate accessibility of external platforms that host institutional content
- Troubleshoot, evaluate, and recommend assistive software and hardware
- Participate in the review and maintenance of guidelines, best practices and standards related to designing and maintaining accessible websites, IT software systems and online materials in compliance with Texas Administrative Code (TAC) 213 and federal ADA regulations
- Work with colleagues to develop accessible templates and tools for web production
- Identify, implement, and oversee tools for monitoring website accessibility
- Participate in the development and implementation of outreach and training on accessibility topics for a wide variety of audiences
- Train campus community members on using accessibility monitoring software and assists in identifying strategies and solutions for web accessibility
- Work closely with designers to integrate accessibility considerations into design processes from the outset
- Leverage deep knowledge of usability best-practices and UI design possibilities to provide actionable feedback on prototypes and mockups to ensure they meet accessibility standards

REQUIREMENTS:
- Associate’s degree in graphic design or related field
- Five years of experience in graphic design, public relations, communications, writing/editing or related field (may substitute required degree with additional years of equivalent experience on a one-to-one basis)
